On 8th July 2012 we will be undertaking a 10 day cycle along the length Ireland, hugging the western coast line for 1000 km. We are doing this for the David Ashwell Foundation. Welcome to our Journey...

About

This summer we will be cycling the length of Ireland, from its most northerly point, Malin Head, to its most southwesterly, Mizen Head. We will be hugging the undulating west coast for over 1000 km, taking in the dramatic landscape of Donegal, Connemara, the Burren and the Macgillycuddy's Reeks. All this in 10 days.

All in all this is a wee bit further than our previous cycling trip along the Outer Hebrides!

Malin to Mizen, a Megametre...... that will be an mmm Challenge!

We will be raising money for the David Ashwell Foundation. The Foundation supports research into Alveolar Capillary Dysplasia (ACD), a very rare congenital malformation involving abnormal development of the capillary vascular system around the alveoli of the lungs. Babies with ACD may appear normal at birth but within minutes or hours they develop incurable respiratory distress.

The David Ashwell Foundation was set up in memory of Brian David Ashwell. In March 2011 his first grandson, named David Fazlollah Upeska Ashwell, was born and 48 hours after birth became seriously ill. David died aged only 15 days old from ACD.

There is no treatment for ACD and as it is so rare, there has been little research into this devastating and fatal illness.
