Inspirations

Like anyone, I have gone through life with people inspiring me to do certain things. Some of these inspirations have been momentary, others have been lifelong. The biggest is my mum, always encouraging me to do what I wanted to but also to push myself. I have no doubt this has led me to being Dr Serena Broadway :)
Andrew and I have been to several years’ worth of Edinburgh Mountain Film Festivals. Over the years the amazing people we have heard speak, from Sir Chris Bonnington to Al Humphreys, have inspired us to get out and do things, like climbing, cycling and hill-walking. In 2010, this meant a cycle up the Hebrides from Barra to Harris. A holiday I don't think I'll ever forget. In 2011, when everyone else was watching the royal wedding, we were making our way round the North West Highlands.

I met Amelia when we were both working at Northumbria University. Always positive and encouraging, it was great to catch up when we met in the corridor. As well as being a lovely person, she was doing some really interesting research. Amelia is also how my mum described her: a very brave and strong lady. Amelia and Simon's strength in dealing with the death of their son David will be inspiring Andrew and me to cycle 1,000 km in 10 days. We want to raise a £1 for every kilometre we cycle on the Malin to Mizen Megameter. In a 100 days’ time will be setting off on our mmmChallenge, please follow our journey on this blog and help us beat our target by donating using the Virgin Giving button at the top of the page.
